The seat of Blanco County, Johnson City is a small town that serves as a retail center for local farmers and ranchers.
Situated by the Pedernales River, Johnson City was the hometown of President Lyndon Baines Johnson and was founded by James Polk Johnson, a nephew of his grandfather Samuel Ealy Johnson, Sr. After Johnson returned from the White House, he made the United States a gift of his lands, now the Lyndon Baines Johnson National Historical Park. The park preserves many historic structures associated with the 36th president including his birthplace, boyhood home, first school, the Texas White House and his grandparents' log cabin.
